Louros River

The Louros River springs from the eastern side of Mount Tomaros and continues south crossing the Mountains of Thesprotia and Xerovouni, and after the village of Kerasona its waters are accumulated at the PPC Artificial Hydroelectric Dam and rejoin the main body of the river, just before the village of Agios Georgios.

This is where the monumental for the time Roman Aqueduct was built to supply water to Nikopolis, by order of Roman emperor Octavian Augustus after 31 BC.

The source of the Louros River is near the village of Vouliasta, where the astounding, small “blue lake” is worth visiting.

The course of the river then passes by the medieval “Castle of Rogoi” and after a course of 66 kilometers in total it flows into Salaora bay at Michalitsi, in the Amvrakikos Gulf.

Trout and eel farming units operate along the old Preveza-Ioannina national road, while this region is the ideal setting to find peace in nature.
